Care Philosophy

Therapy provides individuals a safe and confidential opportunity to carefully examine their beliefs, feelings, and behavior and to advance skills in communicating, problem-solving, and relating well with others while receiving support, guidance, and encouragement from an understanding and resourceful therapist.

I have years of experience counseling with adults, couples, teenagers, and children.

When I meet with individuals and couples in my office, I welcome them, and then we discuss the concerns which led to the appointment.

I use a thoughtful and respectful approach in understanding concerns and formulating solutions. I draw on a knowledge of biology, psychosocial development, and learning theory as I collaborate with individuals in developing customized intervention plans.

When I am working with you in therapy, I will listen carefully, ask questions, and collect information that is helpful in formulating effective treatment strategies. I will need to know about the important people in your life, about your background, your life experience, and your present circumstances. As I get to know you, your history, and your feelings, I will best understand the life story in which your concerns reside, and we will be most able to work together successfully towards achieving your goals, interests, and vision for the future.

Sometimes the problems we face in life end up leading to chronic stress. Work concerns, interpersonal conflict, constant worry, or feelings of depression can lead to medical problems, substance abuse, or relationship difficulties. In therapy, I use an interactive approach combining empathy with directness, guidance with support, and truth with confidence.

Specific treatment modalities are selected with individuals so that the most preferred and effective strategies are utilized. Structured programs, with homework, in areas including recovery from trauma, sexual abuse, substance abuse, relapse prevention, stress management, anger management, obsessive compulsive disorder, and marital relations are also used.

We all depend on one another in order to feel appreciated, valued, and a sense of belonging. I value my Christian faith and offer counsel that is consistent with the teachings of Christ while respecting each individual’s spiritual experience.

I appreciate the opportunity to work with and alongside folks who are striving to achieve the goals and objectives they value in their personal lives and relationships.
